CEMTEK KVB-Enertec is a System Integrator and full service organization that builds & supports continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) to meet EPA 40 CFR Part 60, 64, & 75 regulatory requirements and process control monitoring systems on a variety of applications and sources including chemical, cement, glass, refinery, power, biomass, paper, and many others. CEMTEK also teams with Unisearch Associates, a leader in Tunable Diode Laser instruments to develop and supply TDL’s for process monitoring & EPA CEMS compliance. Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy has been used extensively in many Ammonia (NH3) process control applications, and recently has expanded into the world of CEMS. PS18, a method for HCl & NH3 compliance monitoring has seen TDLS systems from Cemtek/Unisearch successfully installed for performing compliance monitoring for the existing Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) MATS and MACT regulations. There is now considerable interest nationwide in utilizing Optical Integrated Path (IP) TDLS & UV DOAS cross path CEMS to monitor O2, CO2, CO, NOx, SO2 & NH3 for State & EPA compliance in lieu of using traditional extractive CEMS. In this paper we will discuss the operation, design parameters and advantages of using an Optical CEMS in place of a traditional extractive CEMS, and will include test & certification results at a participating customer. We will also review how utilizing Optical CEMS technology would benefit the customer in ongoing maintenance costs.
