We established the Dustbusters Research Group in 1992. WE continue to develop and implement wind blown dust methodology and implementation of these methods. Our outdoor laboratory is the western Mojave desert. This is ideal because there is a lot of wind blown dust in this disturbed desert. There ae also auto test tracks here and numerous large scale solar farms. Both these industries require minimal wind blown dust. We work with many desert groups to implement our continuing developed dust mitigation measures. Currently we ae working with Congress to control wind blown dust in the Rancho Seco area. This is a $850,000 program. WE have a research staff of many scientists, regulators, academicians, industry experts. This field requires interdisciplinary expertise. At this conference we will present our latest progress during the past year. These developed mitigation measures are applicable in many locations. They include berms from mulch and chips, porous wind fences, artificial barriers, hydroseeding to restore native vegetation using native seeds, preparation of the land for mitigation measures, tackifiers, as needed. l lThe desert is a windy place with springs of 75 mph or stronger sometimes. Often there is limited precipitation of only bout 2 inches annuallyu. The hope is to receive enough precipitation so weedy annual sprout in the spring, thereby holding the sandy soil in place and prevent saltation.
