Industry Documents Library Managing Archivist

Kate Tasker, MLIS, CA, is the Industry Documents Library Managing Archivist at the University of California, San Francisco. She leads a team of archivists and software developers to manage the Industry Documents Library (IDL), a digital repository of over 15 million documents created by industries which impact public health. Originally established in 2002 to house 40 million digitized pages of internal documents disclosed in historic litigation against the tobacco industry, the IDL has expanded to include over 93 million pages of materials obtained from the tobacco, chemical, drug, food, and fossil fuel industries. More than 1,000 publications based on the documents have been produced, including peer-reviewed articles, books, investigative journalism pieces, documentary films, government reports, and computational research projects.
Kate holds a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from San Jose State University and is a Certified Archivist. Prior to joining the Industry Documents Library team in 2018, she held positions at the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley, UCSF Archives & Special Collections, San Francisco State University, and the National Archives and Records Administration (San Francisco).
