Medical Librarian / Manager
Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ohio University
Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Debra Orr-Roderick, MSS, MLIS., Manager and Librarian of the Learning Resource Center at the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. As the librarian for the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (HCOM), I manage the LRCs on our three extension campuses of Athens, Dublin, and Cleveland. I provide assistance to faculty, staff, and students at all three locations. I have been in my current position for 11 years, but at Ohio University for 15. Prior to accepting the position at HCOM, I was the Health Sciences Librarian at Alden Library on the Athens Campus. There I was the subject librarian for the College of Health Sciences and Professions, which included Nursing, Social and Public Health, Applied Health Sciences and Wellness, and Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences.
Prior to becoming a librarian for the second half of my working career, I was the Administrator for the Head & Neck Oncology Program at The Ohio State University's Comprehensive Cancer Center / James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. During my tenure at OSU, I spent many hours conducting literature searches for the oncologic surgeons. That's when I discovered how much I enjoyed searching for information and decided to work toward obtaining my MLIS degree. The rest, they say, is history.
