Dr. Van Sickels graduated from Dental School at the Medical College of Virginia and after two years of a general Practice residency in Baltimore, he received his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at the Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia. He has been at several teaching institutions and is currently Professor and Program director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Kentucky in Lexington Kentucky. He has given several hundred presentations both nationally and internationally. He has published over 200 referred journal articles and textbook chapters mostly dealing with orthognathic surgery and distraction osteogenesis. He is a reviewer for multiple Journals in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has been on the examination committee of the “Board” for several years. He is an Associate Fellow member of the American College of Surgeons.
