Janis (Jan) P. Bellack is President Emerita of the MGH Institute of Health Professions, a specialized graduate school located in Boston, where she served as President and John Hilton Knowles Professor for 10 years. She previously held progressive academic leadership roles in nursing and health professions education, and taught nursing at BSN and graduate levels for more than 20 years.
Jan served as national program faculty for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s (RWJF) Executive Nurse Fellows leadership program from 1998-2010. From 1996-2000, she served as co-director of two South Carolina Colleagues in Caring projects funded by RWJF focused on supporting educational advancement through collaboration between ADN and BSN programs.
Jan has published widely in the professional literature and consulted on nursing education and leadership domestically and internationally. She is Editor Emerita of the Journal of Nursing Education, having served as associate editor and then editor over a 20-year period.
Jan holds diploma/BSN, master’s, and PhD degrees from the Universities of Virginia, Florida, and Kentucky, respectively.
In 2017, Jan retired to the Charleston SC area. She continues to serve as a consultant and mentor in nursing education and leadership development.
