Dr. Julio Santiago is a nursing professor with over 11 years of experience in nursing education. Dr. Santiago has over 30 years of nursing experience that includes behavioral health, ICU, Neuro/Neuro ICU, assistant director of medical services, and for the past 12 years, has been the COO/Co-owner of a vascular access company that outsources PICC services to hospitals and nursing homes in the greater Chicagoland area.
Professional actively involved in nursing organizations to expand knowledge and contribute to the nursing profession. Appointed to Infusion Nurses Society Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force – January 2021 to address equity and inclusion issues. Member of the college DEI committee (2015) – the committee's role is to manage, review policies, and create policies that deal with equity and inclusion on campus. Appointed to the National Association of Hispanic Nurses Finance committee (2015). Appointed to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Illinois Legislative committee (2018) to address issues related to the state of Illinois policies pertaining to healthcare and the profession of nursing-related topics. ANA-IL Expert Panel on Nursing Education to address nursing education solutions in Illinois that will strengthen the development of a diversified nursing profession. Dr. Santiago considers himself to be an advocate for nursing.
