According to statistics published, as little as 23% of new nurse graduates who were successful on NCLEX actually have entry-level competency. These studies and more set the National Council State Board of Nursing on the Next Generation pathway. How do we as educators teach to reach clinical nursing judgment? How do we transform the classroom for the Next Generation NCLEX success? Can our graduates count on our intuitions to meet their needs to be successful with the Next Generation NCLEX and to meet the evolving needs of the nursing profession? What does it take to make sure that what we teach rather than tell learners in the classroom that advances them beyond knowledge to clinical nursing judgement? How will we evaluate their understanding and readiness?
This session will provide a creative approach for the classroom that shifts from ‘telling’ or presentation focused, to ‘teaching’ which facilitates mastery. It will provide a template for preparation that focuses on engaging the learner and using the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model as the assessment tool.
Learning Objectives:
Differentiate between classroom preparation that is telling and that which is teaching.
Identify the components of the 3rd layer of the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model as the classroom blueprint and as the assessment tool.
Create a plan to transform the classroom content to meet the Next Generation pathway.
