The Covid-19 pandemic has ended the lives of people across the world, causing untold suffering and dislocation, with loss of life expected to exceed one million. The virus and its aftermath could result in societies becoming more deeply divided, but that is not inevitable. Our presentation in our educational community has discovered ways stand up and unleash our creative side using the technology within our environment.
The focus of our efforts came down to student and faculty success. Creating ways to keep on teaching so "none would be left behind; develop a plan for our most successful program enhancement-"Simulated Patients"; determine ways to turn classroom into opportunities for simulation during online teaching and continuing to have the important guest speaker experts into our “new normal”.
Teaching in the “new normal”, especially online, must allow students to be engaged. The challenge to faculty is to make the instructional design meaningful, memorable, motivational and, in the end, measurable. The transition in most cases is taxing both faculty and students almost beyond measure!
Hybrid delivery became an essential approach to our present education since some students, some faculty, some classrooms and some simulation spaces took on a different look. Limitations on numbers, personal protective equipment, though scarce in the beginning was a standard apparel for the labs. Virtual platforms were being touted as an essential for success. Funding opportunities and resources were being examined. Many ideas were on the table to create some possibility to assure completion of courses and graduating students.
Please join us as we journey into unchartered waters and see how students and faculty have taken on the challenge to the new path of success!
