Professor and DNP Program Director
University of Tennessee Health Science Center
Bobby Bellflower, DNSc, NNP-BC, FAANP, is Professor and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program Director at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Nursing. She is also a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) with an active practice in a Level IIIb NICU at Regional One Health in Memphis, TN. The DNP program has grown to eight concentrations and almost 300 DNP students during her tenure, with 90% of them post BSN to DNP students. The DNP program ranks in the top 8% of DNP programs in the country. Bobby is an investigator on a $2.8 million HRSA grant focused on improving the care of Moms and babies in the Mississippi Delta region. Part of the grant is used to recruit and pay the tuition for students that agree to work in underserved and rural areas for a specified number of years. We graduated an NNP student using the grant in May 2021. In certain areas of the U.S., there is a shortage of NNPs; using grant money to help fund education for NNPs is one way to address the shortage. Facilitating student recruitment, admission, and matriculation through the DNP programs is Bobby's passion. Teaching students to conduct evidence-based practice and quality improvement (QI) is the way to change the outcomes of babies, families, and communities!
