Valerie Willis, PhD, RN, PPCNP-BC, PCNS-BS, is a National Institutes of Health (NIH) and American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) Fellow in Genomic Medicine Program Management. She began her career in pediatric/neonatal nursing with a bachelor of science in nursing from California State University Long Beach. She later served as program manager for Parenting Preemies, a multidisciplinary post-NICU discharge education and support program dedicated to promotion of optimal early outcomes of NICU graduates and parent-infant attachment where she facilitated an education/support group in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and conducted home visits. She earned a master of science from Azusa Pacific University with a dual specialty as a pediatric nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist, holds national board certification in both, and has clinical expertise in NICU nursing and high-risk infant neurodevelopmental follow-up. Dr. Willis was awarded a PhD from the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science with concentration in genetics and health advocacy. She completed the National Institute of Nursing Research Summer Genetics Institute, the Emory University Summer Exposome Course, and is a member of NANN as well as the International Society of Nurses in Genetics, and a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer. Dr. Willis has presented nationally and internationally and is published in peer reviewed journals. She remains a champion of developmentally supportive care administered through a patient/family centered care lens in collaboration with a cohesive interprofessional team informed by genomics.
