Nan Kyer, RN, BSN, IBCLC works as a lactation nurse at Connecticut Children's. She has been a board-certified lactation consultant for 20 years, working in a variety of settings including community programs, outpatient pediatric settings and maternity units. She is especially interested in how culture influences healthcare practices, specifically feeding practices, both in our communites as well as our hospital units. Data collection related to actual practice and staff accountibility can initiate shifts in practice that eventually yield new cultural norms. Her presentation of the Keriton Milk Management system is an example of this.
