Kathleen Shields, MS is a Genetic Counselor and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Medical Genetics at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. She completed her training at the University of Texas Genetic Counseling Program in May of 2021, and this poster is the result of her master's thesis work. She has an interest in inpatient genetic counseling and the important role NICU nurses play in identifying and caring for infants with genetic conditions. In the future, she looks forward to continuing to learn more about how genetic counselors and nurses can collaborate in caring for this patient population and how to support nurses in gaining more genetics knowledge. She currently serves as one of two genetic counselors responsible for managing the inpatient genetics consultation service for Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital.
