To the new NICU RN: Your orientation is now over and now the adventure begins. To the seasoned NICU RN: The new nurse’ orientation is now over. How can you help them succeed? Each of you have a role in this big step. The new NICU RN needs to continue to evolve and develop, while the seasoned NICU RN is in a perfect position to facilitate and guide the novice RN’s growth.

At the conclusion of this presentation, the learner will be able to:

Discuss the expectations of the novice NICU RN and strategies to develop the skills and knowledge of a well-rounded NICU RN without burnout.
Outline effective methods of communication between families and staff.
Identify methods that the seasoned NICU RN can utilize to support and nurture the novice RN not only during orientation but throughout their early years of professional growth.
