Research findings suggest the importance of education for all maternal/neonatal nurses to enhance knowledge and interactive skills when caring for newborns with NAS and mothers with OUD. There is a universal need for healthcare providers to enrich their understanding of mothers with addiction.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion the participant will define the therapeutic value of keeping the mother/infant dyad intact while implementing nonpharmacologic interventions as the first line of therapies for newborns experiencing NAS.
Upon completion, the participant will describe the importance of removing stigma and judgmental experiences for women with OUD.
Upon completion, the participant will describe the importance the role of the nurse has to promote therapeutic relationships for maternal success on their life-long journey of recovery and parenting.
