Nutritional requirements of the newborn and particularly premature infants is of grave importance to the neonatal profession. Human milk is the optimum nutrition for neonates due to the neurodevelopmental, gastrointestinal, and immune system benefits it provides. Targeted interventions fostering expressed breast milk guidance to mothers can increase human milk availability to the neonatal population.
