Healthcare Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is a revolving learning process of self and our communities. Many healthcare organizations require one learning video and quiz a year that many speed through to get it over with, but is anyone truly absorbing the information and taking it to change the care they give to their patients. From the perspective of someone who is a nurse but who is also a family member of someone who received inequitable care resulting in their death, I want to make sure that no family member has to experience what I have been through. We are all entitled to who we are but we need to make sure that who we are and what we believe does not impact the outcome and care of our patients. Implicit biases are something we all as humans have, but without proper education on identifying them they go ignored which results in inequitable care.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will learn how to identify their own implicit biases that they may not have known existed
Upon completion, participants will be able to utilize and implement 3 strategies to reduce implicit bias with their own bedside nursing care.
Upon completion, participants will be able to understand emotional intelligence and how it can help interpersonal relationships with coworkers, leadership, and patient's families.
Upon completion, participants will know the difference between providing equitable care and equal care?
