Standardizing practice and product use will reduce complications related to diaper dermatitis. Additional benefits include improved comfort for infant and reduced family anxiety. Education to all staff on an evidence-based skin care protocol and sharing improvement data are important for standardizing care and buy in for continued compliance.

Identify infants at risk for diaper dermatitis and common causes of skin irritation.
Implement strategies to prevent or reduce the risk and severity of diaper dermatitis in the preterm infant population.
