Developmentally appropriate positioning affects musculoskeletal and bio-mechanical alignment; therefore appropriate positioning devices and mattresses may help with proper alignment and help prevent pressure injuries (Drake, 2017). Neonatal nurses on a Level IV NICU were observed using various practices that were not aligned with National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines due to lack of a standard in developmental care practices on the unit.
