Michelle Leonard, MA, MLS, is a tenured associate university librarian in the Marston Science Library, University of Florida. From 2010-2012, she served as the Principal Investigator for the $298,000 National Science Foundation (NSF)grant project "Gaming Against Plagiarism," an interactive online game about ethics in the STEM disciplines, and has served as a grant review panelist for NSF. In 2017, Michelle received a travel award to attend the Department of Health & Human Services Office of Research Integrity Short Course on RCR Instruction (SCoRCRI). She is the co-coordinator for the UF RCR Stakeholders Group, a campus-wide initiative to bring together faculty who teach RCR in their curriculum.
For the past 10 years, Michelle has taught a variety of one time workshops on various responsible conduct of research topics to graduate students in STEM fields. In 2011, she developed a one credit course “Fundamentals of Research Integrity “ for the UF Honors Program, and teach it every Fall and/or Spring semester. In 2018,she became the Editor-in-Chief for the UF Journal of Undergraduate Research, an open access journal for all undergraduates who conduct research.
Most recently, in the spring of 2020, Michelle worked with UF Research Integrity to develop a RCR Summer Seminar Series for the UF community. This series implemented active learning strategies to teach research integrity and RCR components. This seminar drew 300 participants. Those who completed 17 hours received a RCR Certificate of Completion (a first for UF), and can apply it towards the RCR training for NSF, USDA grant awardees. Michelle has presented on RCR at international and national conferences.
