Research Specialist I, Missouri Outreach Support Specialist

Ellen Thieme (she/her) received her Bachelor of Educational Studies from the University of Missouri, with an emphasis on adult and alternative populations and holds her MLA Consumer Health Information Specialization certification. She is pursuing her Masters of Library and Information Science through the University of Missouri School of Information Science and Learning Technologies (MU SISLT). Ellen is a member of the Catalysts for Community Health IMLS grant cohort in her graduate program, which aims to train a student cohort to build healthy communities in underserved areas through experiential learning and collaboration between the MU SISLT, the MU School of Health Professions, and community care agencies.
In her community, Ellen serves on the People’s Defense policy board, which provides oversight for the group’s mutual aid fund and community education on legislation relevant to the group’s larger mission of equity, education, and racial justice. Ellen currently works as the Missouri Outreach Support Specialist for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, MidContinental Region and as a standardized patient for the School of Health Professions at MU. Previously, she has worked in special education, public health education initiatives, and adult education and training. Her professional aim is to connect communities with relevant, accessible, and accurate information. She is particularly enthralled with the mission of removing stigma from public health issues, placing her interests squarely in the realms of diversity, equity, and inclusion, information literacy, and identity and intersectionality.
