Health Sciences Librarian
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Health Sciences Library
Stacy Torian (MLIS, MA) is a health sciences librarian at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is passionate about centering the voices and information needs of marginalized community members. While earning her Master of Library and Information Studies degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she served as an outreach services volunteer for the Alamance County Library system, delivering library materials to patrons residing and working in residential group homes. During her final year of study, she did research on the information literacy strategies of women in carceral facilities and the information needs of lesbian, bisexual, and queer women of color. Her approach to librarianship is informed by all of these experiences, as well as by her academic background in African American intellectual history, her prior work as a community college instructor, and her experiences as an adult literacy tutor. In her role at UNC Chapel Hill, she helps students and researchers refine their information-seeking strategies and seeks to highlight underrepresented perspectives in health sciences literature.
