Ellen M. Justice, MLIS, AHIP serves as a Clinical & Resarch Librarian. She provides clinical literature searching and reference services to support patient care in 16 counties of Western North Carolina. She executes expert searches to support clinical and administrative information needs of MAHEC’s administrators, residents, faculty, clinicians, and research staff. Conducts instructional sessions to teach AHEC’s Digital Library, databases, and literature searching. Actively contributes to and supports residency curricula i.e. Family Medicine Journal Club, Psychiatry Residency research curriculum. Creates educational tools to support resident learning i.g. subject guides via LibGuides. Participates on relevant working groups i.e. SUD Task Force. Ellen completed MLA's Research Training Institute in the summer 2019 and is working on a research project that will assess a psychiatry residency research curriculum.
Prior to joining MAHEC in September 2017 she served as a community health librarian and medical librarian for the Department of Medical Libraries at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE.
She has contributed to her profession by presenting posters, authoring a book chapter and articles, and volunteering for the Philadelphia Regional Chapter and the International Cooperation Section of MLA. She has also co-authored several systematic reviews for which she provided expert literature searches and documentation.
Ellen earned her master of library and information science from the University of South Carolina in 1994 and distinguished membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals since 2012. She received the Philadelphia Regional Chapter of the Medical Library Association (MLA-Phil) Randy Brenner Memorial Consumer Health Award in 2015.
