An increasing number of interconnected drivers of global change, including climate change, increases in the frequency and severity of extreme weather, sea level rise, and inter-continental movements of atmospheric pollutants such S, N and Hg, are threatening societies and built and natural ecosystems worldwide. Global problems require global solutions. International global change research networks offer opportunities for multi-generational, multi-cultural networks of researchers to come together to share science, worldviews, societal norms, and create goodwill and friendships that may go far to help solve these monumental socio-ecological crises of the 21st century.
