My husband and I have navigated the two-body problem since our graduate school days; making tough choices to balance two science careers, but finally finding our way to two amazing careers outside of the academy. The challenges differ for dual-scientist couples outside of academia where spousal hires tend to be rare. That said, opportunities can be numerous for those willing to market themselves outside of academia. I’ll discuss my path through this process, including how my family has influenced my career, how my career has influenced by family, and how we ended up (happily) outside of the academy.
