Maggie earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Mount Holyoke College. She received her M.S. in Biology (restoration ecology) from the University of Denver and her PhD in Education (citizen science training) from the University of the Rockies. Maggie teaches biology at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs. She is also a member of the Bard College Citizen Science faculty. In the ecological realm, Maggie investigates ecological restoration success with aid of citizen scientists who collect data to monitor restoration efforts. She also employs education research techniques to explore the relationship between citizen science training and data reliability.
