Christian Perez-Martinez is a second year Ph.D. student in Manuel Leal’s lab at the University of Missouri, Columbia, studying the evolution of miniaturization in squamates, particularly as it relates to brain evolution and sensory physiology. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Integrative Biology at Harvard University in 2017, where he studied ecological morphology in a mainland community of Anolis lizards through the lab of Jonathan Losos, and he has also worked on the behavioral ecology of Australian agamid lizards in Martin Whiting’s lab at Macquarie University. Throughout his early academic career, Christian has maintained a strong interest in natural history and animal behavior, and in his Ph.D., he aims to integrate phylogenetic and functional morphological approaches to better understand cognitive and sensory processes.
