Alishia Orloff is an ecologist who conducts research in riparian ecosystems with a particular focus on traditional land management. She obtained her B.S. from University of Washington and conducted field work with the Tulalip Tribe in Washington State. She was involved with hydrologic research on the reintroduction of beaver to the Snohomish River. Pursuing her interest in riparian ecology and freshwater management, Alishia attended the Yale School of Forestry where she received her M.S. in Environmental Science. She is now completing her manuscript on her thesis work on agroecological restoration of Hawaiian wetlands. Her work prioritizes the reaffirmation and integration of traditional ways of knowing as a lens for holistic understandings of our complex ecosystems. Advocating for the necessity of contextualized science, Alishia aims to reframe dominant narratives of scientific epistemologies to address systemic injustices as they pertain to food sovereignty.
