Allan Schinckel is a Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN, USA). Dr. Schinckel earned a B.Sc. degree (with distinction) in Animal Sciences at Iowa State University, followed by a M.Sc. and PhD in Genetics and Animal Breeding the University of Nebraska. Dr. Schinckel is broadly interested in quantitative genetics, animal compositional growth modeling and the modeling of environmental effects (health status, immune system activation, stressors) on animal growth. His research focuses on the genetic improvement of swine and the means in which genetic selection impacts the animal’s nutritional and environmental requirements. Dr. Schinckel has been responsible for the selection of the high and low food allergic lines of pigs. He has completed several trials evaluating the impact of disease/health status or immune system activation in different genetic populations of pigs.
