Dr. Matthew McIntosh is a Research Associate with the New Mexico State University Department of Animal and Range Sciences and the USDA Southwest Climate Hub. Matt is currently investigating grazing behavior, genetic morphology, and animal-plant interactions of conventional and heritage cattle biotypes and wildlife on Chihuahuan desert rangelands as well as climate-change and stocking rate effects on native plant communities. Matt also works with the Sustainable Southwest Beef Coordinated Agricultural Project precision ranching team, which is developing real-time telemetric tools and algorithms for extensive ranch applications. Matt has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and is interested in the intersection of art and science; likewise, he has developed a portfolio of scientific illustrations related to his fields of expertise.
