Research project manager
Alltech
Currently working in the Alltech Dunboyne research facility with projects focused on controlling pathogenic infections of the porcine gastrointestinal tract and increasing animal performance. The research undertaken assesses new methods to control infection by testing proprietary feed additives on cultured porcine, murine and human cell lines. Outcomes of treatments are assessed by analyzing changes on a molecular level by examining changes in gene expression, protein abundance and rates of bacterial infection. The research also encompasses methods of improving cellular growth by increasing metabolism through addition of natural additives that promote growth with an emphasis on transferring these findings to benefit livestock. The role also includes managing undergraduate and postgraduate placement students undertaking short preliminary projects that assess the potential of new control methods for harmful pathogens.
