Graduate Teaching Assistant
Department of Animal Sciences, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey
Jennifer Weinert is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Endocrinology and Animal Biosciences at Rutgers University. Since arriving at Rutgers, Ms. Weinert has worked under the guidance of Dr. Carey Williams with a research focus on pasture management, grazing horse nutrition, and the gut microbiome. Ms. Weinert has also worked as graduate teaching assistant within the Rutgers Department of Animal Sciences and as equine outreach assistant at the Rutgers Equine Science Center.
Ms. Weinert grew up on a dairy farm in northern Wisconsin and received her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, after which she went on to work in the western performance horse sector of the equine industry. Working at reining horse training facilities in Texas and Wisconsin provided invaluable practical experiences and instilled an even greater appreciation for the scope of the equine industry.
Following her time in industry, Ms. Weinert returned to UW-River Falls as the manager of the equine enterprise at the UWRF Campus Laboratory Farm. In that capacity, she oversaw management of the university-owned teaching horse herd and all equine facilities, while also assisting faculty with their classes, outreach programs and applied research. Ms. Weinert also managed the UWRF Horse Breeding Program.
