PhD Candidate
Agriculture and Agri-food Canada/ University Laval
Mr. Hector Salgado is originally from Colombia. He has a B.Sc. in Animal Production from the National University of Colombia at Bogota and a M.Sc. in Animal Science from Laval University. He is currently a PhD student in Animal Science and Swine Nutrition at both Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Laval University. Hector’s studies are under the supervision of Dr. Candido Pomar and Dr. Marie-Pierre Letourneau Montminy. His PhD research is focused on the contribution of feeding behaviour and insulin dynamics in the observed variation of nutrient utilization and body composition in growing–finishing pigs. His research project has led to the development of a new methodology for describing individual feeding patterns in pigs, as well as adapting an in vivo method to estimate de novo lipogenesis in pigs using stable isotopes. This work was in collaboration with Dr. Helene Lapierre from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
