Octavio Guimaraes is a Ph.D student in the Department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University, and his main research focus is Animal Nutrition. Octavio, originally from Jardinopolis, Sao Paulo - Brazil, earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from UNESP (Universidade Estadual Paulista) in Jaboticabal, Sao Paulo in 2016. During his time at UNESP, Octavio worked with many large beef cattle producers and gained the opportunity to network with many people from the Brazilian and US beef industries. Octavio first came to Colorado State University in 2016 for an internship, working with the animal nutrition team, to help him diversify his cattle background and learn more about livestock nutrition in the United States. Upon completion of his internship, Octavio accepted a full time position as a Research Associate with Dr. Terry Engle. At Colorado State, Octavio was resposible for training graduate and undergraduate students, working on managing research projects mainly with beef and dairy cattle, along with overseeing the biochemistry laboratory and helping to teach Animal Nutrition courses. Octavio has recently switched his role in the department becaming a full time PhD student focusing on trace mineral in ruminant nutrition. Octavio hopes to complete his PhD program at the end of 2022, and in the future would like to continue working with livestock nutrition, specifically within the research field. In his free time, Octavio enjoys fly fishing, playing soccer, and throwing churrasco’s (BBQ’s) with friends.
