My name is Oscar Alejandro Ojeda Rojas; I have a bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine (Universidad del Tolima, Colombia) and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Animal Production and Simulation Models. I am a researcher at the Laboratory of Socioeconomic Analysis and Animal Science (LAE) of the University of São Paulo (Brazil). Currently, I volunteer at the North Florida Research and Education Center of the University of Florida in Marianna. The son of a veterinarian and a nurse, I grew up in a family concerned with the well-being of everyone. Even in high school, I volunteered with the local branch of the Red Cross. Working at this institution created a strong sense of community and helped me develop strong solidarity, discipline, leadership, and teamwork skills. After finishing my bachelor’s degree and before migrating to the academy to pursue my Ph.D. I worked for eight years as a field veterinarian. At that time, I gained in-depth knowledge of the physiology of reproduction, reproductive technologies (such as Artificial Insemination, Embryo Transfer, and pregnancy diagnosis), beef and dairy cattle management, and health management programs. During my master's and Ph.D., I acquire new skills in object-oriented programming, Java programming language, stochastic simulation, and agent-based simulation. Thus, I have extensive field experience with beef and dairy farms and ample research experience using simulation models applied to animal production and reproductive biotechnology. My main interest is in reproductive efficiency and how it modulates herd dynamics and, consequently, the system's profitability.
