Alvaro Morales grew up on a family farm dedicated primarily to raising dual-purpose cattle in Valdivia, Chile. He obtained a DVM degree from the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the Austral University of Chile in 2012. Later, he completed a Master of Science in Animal Health at the same university. At the end of 2013, he became a member of the Animal Science Institute of the Austral University of Chile as an Instructor Professor, being promoted to Assistant Professor in 2018. Later, he began his doctoral studies at the Department of Dairy Science of Virginia Tech. Currently, he is in the third year of the Ph.D. program, which focuses on the nutritional and genetic characterization of dairy cows from pasture-based systems in order to improve the productivity and efficiency of these systems.
