Cara Cargo-Froom is a 3rd year PhD candidate at the University of Guelph studying under Dr. Anna Kate Shoveller. Cara completed her BScH and MSc in canine mineral nutrition at the University of Guelph. Cara has additionally worked for Trouw Nutrition as a monogastric research assistant and Champion Pet Foods as a short term contract research assistant. Currently, Cara is working in conjunction with researchers at the Prairie Swine Centre (Saskatoon, SK, Canada) and the University of Saskatchewan for her PhD, studying the comparisons of protein quality methodologies with pulses as the ingredient of focus and swine as her animal model. Cara's PhD is sponsored by Swine Innovation Porc and Saskatchewan Pulse Growers. Additionally, Cara was sponsored by MITACS Accelerate program and travelled to Saskatchewan to work with the Prairie Swine Centre in fall of 2019 and undertook a processing study to evaluate the impact of pelleting and extrusion on a variety of Canadian pulses. Cara enjoys the comparative nutrition aspect that her graduate career has taken her in thus far, in addition to experience in feed/food processing, and looks forward to finishing her studies in the field of protein quality and pulses.
