Dr. Christopher Welsh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. His main area of clinical work is in the area of addiction. He works in various in- and out-patient settings (as well as via Tele-medicine), including methadone and buprenorphine maintenance. He has an interest in substance use in pregnancy and the medical complications of addiction. He also works with the Baltimore City Department of Health and the State Department of Health on opioid addiction treatment expansion, opioid overdose prevention, and other harm reduction initiatives. He also works with the country of Kenya to implement treatement for opioid use disorder there. He is also involved with training of healthcare professionals in various addiction-related areas. He is also the Medical Director of the State Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling.
