Dr. Sarah Kattakuzhy graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School before completing her Internal Medicine residency at George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC. After serving as Chief Medical Resident, Dr. Kattakuzhy joined the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease Laboratory of Immunoregulation, where she established her research career in the care of HIV and HCV, in particular the use of direct-acting-antivirals. In 2014, she transitioned to the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, where she continues to serve as Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, and co-leads the Research Initiative on Infectious Disease in Substance Use Disorders. Dr. Kattakuzhy's research is focused on marginalized subpopulations of the HCV and HIV epidemics, in particular, people with opioid use disorder. Her work in the field of implementation science has been published in the Annals of Internal Medicine and Clinical Infectious Diseases. Dr. Kattakuzhy is a buprenorphine-waivered provider and is a strong proponent of medical education interventions to improve the care of individuals with substance use disorders.
