Small Animal Surgery Resident
Oregon State University
I am Alex Alvarez, Ldo Vet, the third-year Small Animal Surgery Resident at Oregon State University. After graduating from the veterinary program at the University of Cordoba, Spain in 2015, I completed two rotating internships in Europe, followed by a surgical internship and teaching assistantship in Canada. Subsequently, I was fortunate to match with Oregon State University for my combined Small Animal Surgery residency and Master of Science. My thesis research is focused on sentinel lymph node mapping techniques in dogs with mast cell tumors. Other research I have conducted has focused on canine total hip replacements and epicardial pacemaker implantation in ferrets. Outside of veterinary medicine, I am a devoted soccer fan and enjoy outdoor activities, especially hiking, overlanding, and fly fishing.
