This lecture begins by reviewing contributing factors that result in development of surgical site infections (SSIs), particularly in orthopedic patients. The importance of early recognition of SSIs and diagnostic work up approach are briefly discussed. The second part of the lecture focuses on treatment strategies when such SSIs are encountered.
