In order to ensure the optimal return to function following surgical correction, physical rehabilitation should be incorporated into recovery; however, not all orthopedic patients require the same level or same time frame of implementation of exercises and modalities. A proper understanding of not only the condition’s medical and surgical treatment options, but also a knowledge of the stages of tissue healing allows the rehabilitation practitioner to develop a treatment program that assists the patient to return to function quickly while minimizing complications.
