Patients recovering from neurological decompression surgery comprise the most commonly treated neurological patient encountered in veterinary rehabilitation. In human medicine, post-surgical rehabilitation has been well-documented, proven very useful, and is a key element in ensuring the best recovery outcome. In veterinary medicine, although not as well-documented in the literature, postoperative rehabilitation is similarly a key to a successful recovery. When developing a rehabilitation program for individuals in this group of patients, it is important to remember to comprehensively evaluate the individual from a neurological, orthopedic, physical, and historical perspective. Due to the scope of this topic, this lecture focuses on only the early stages of recovery, from immediate postoperative to approximately one-month postoperative.
