The lecture reviews the evolution of distal femoral osteotomy as a procedure to address patellar luxation in dogs. Advances in planning methodologies as well as different methods of performing osteotomies and establishing alignment are detailed. Types of implants and applications for the stabilization of distal femoral osteotomies are reviewed. Finally published clinical results are examined to summarize the efficacy of the procedure with projections of innovations that may be implemented in the future.
