Surgical diseases of the equine cecum are impeded by a number of unique factors. The unusual anatomy of the horse can complicate access and approaches. In addition, the underlying cause of cecal diseases is often not completely understood. In this lecture, best surgical practices are discussed and recent literature for recommendations to treat impactions and intussusceptions of the cecum are reviewed.
