Principal Scientist
Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER)
Dr. Matthew J. Alvarado is a Principal Scientist at Atmospheric and Envionmental Research (AER). Dr. Alvarado’s main areas of expertise include modeling the chemistry of the atmosphere, with a specific focus on the chemistry of smoke plumes from biomass burning and their impact on atmospheric composition, air quality, and climate. He also researches the interaction of atmospheric aerosols and trace gases with radiation and the optimal estimation of trace gas concentrations and aerosol properties using satellite-, aircraft-, and ground-based radiance observations. As the manager of AER's Air Quality and Atmospheric Composition section, Dr. Alvarado uses the scientific and technical expertise gained in these efforts to support air quality agencies, as well as non-profit and industry clients, in addressing their air quality challenges.
