The Combined Air Emissions Reporting System (CAERS) is an EPA online reporting system that allows industry from subscribed State, Local, and Tribal authorities (SLTs) to report air emissions to the National Emissions Inventory (NEI), and enter data going to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI), as well as any SLT-specific programs. The ultimate goals of CAERS are to streamline air emissions reporting, reducing reporting burden to industry from duplicate reporting of similar data elements to different air programs, as well as EPA and SLT staff time in compiling, reviewing, and reconciling industry reported data. Other data of interest to CAERS is data contained in reports being sent through the Compliance and Emissions Data Reporting Interface (CEDRI) to meet specific federal air emissions rule requirements, as well as input data for reporting to the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP). Last year the state of Georgia piloted the use of the CAERS Minimum Viable Product. For the 2020 inventory year, additional SLTs are using the system. In this presentation, CAERS will be demonstrated, including its reporting features such as bulk entry, bulk upload, alternative throughputs, and other features. Lessons learned and directions for future work will be discussed. Through this presentation we hope to obtain feedback from industry and SLTs, as well as suggestions for future workflows to build in CAERS, to make air emissions reporting easier.
