Given the nature of the Air Force mission, their real-estate footprint and the complexity in their budget planning process, project planning at installations is multi-faceted, and at times riddled with unforeseen challenges and exterior influences. Balancing the needs of national security and services with the responsibility of being good stewards of environmental quality with the many cultural and natural resources that exist on Air Force installations requires extensive, multi-faceted planning. While each installation has unique requirements to be addressed in their planning efforts and varying overarching themes, sustainability is important to all. As part of this panel, two specific facets of these planning efforts will be discussed; (1) engagement/ consultation with Native American tribes, and (2) establishing confidence in the environmental stability of plans. This is meant to be an open discussion to allow multiple points of view and experiences to be explored.
