Building upon the ongoing successes of NASA’s Air Quality Applied Sciences Team (AQAST, 2011-2016) and the revamped Health and AQAST (HAQAST, 2016-2020), NASA’s Health and Air Quality Applications program is excited to present the next generation of HAQAST. Acting as a technical bridge between Earth data experts and end-users, this research team solves real-world challenges by applying Earth observations to improve decision-making activities in public health surveillance and air quality management. Their expertise ranges from topics covering air quality impacts of biomass burning and industrial emissions to health outcomes related to urban heat islands and light pollution. In this panel, NASA’s Health and Air Quality Applications Program Manager, HAQAST’s Team Lead, and three additional HAQAST principal investigators will share their stories of integrating Earth observations for use in stakeholder activities. Through these presentations, our panelists will promote discussions about challenges and successes in using Earth observations for their diverse research topics with emphasis on community partnerships that are essential to achieve the greatest societal benefits for the health and air quality community.
