Resident
University of Tennessee Medical Center
Rian A. Cho is a chief resident at Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, Tennessee. He earned his dentistry degree from Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee in 2017 and a Certificate in Health Policy through a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Scholars Program at Meharry in the same year. Rian was born in South Korea and moved to Michigan when he was 15 years old. Rian is an alumnus of Andrews University, Michigan, where he played in the Symphony Orchestra, and discovered evidence of an unexplored star for a graduation thesis on molecular astrophysics. Rian later graduated with dual degrees in three years. Upon graduation from college in 2006, he served as a missionary in Korea until 2007, when he earned his commission in the Air Force. He has served at various locations worldwide overseeing over 150 multinational military and civilian employees and over $5 million in assets. Although Rian enjoyed his career in the military, he realized that he would be happier as a health-care provider while he was participating in a humanitarian operation after the Great East Japan Earthquake. In 2013, Rian was honorably discharged from the military as a Captain to start his new career in dentistry.
Rian holds a pilot license where he hopes to travel around the world with his wife and two children doing mission work one day.
